The aim of the course is to provide the candidate with the basic knowledge and practical skills involved in operating the machine.  

Candidates will participate in theory lessons and practical demonstrations/exercises, all of which are highlighted by the use of OHP and Videos covering:

  • An introduction to the construction industry
  • Current relevant regulations
  • Indroduction to the machine
  • Pre-shift inspections
  • Controls and instruments
  • Collant, fuel and lubrication systems
  • Trenching, back-filling, levelling and marking out
  • Excavating deep and shallow excavation
  • Other associated construction activites
  • Explanation of attachments
  • Assessment which includes Theory and Practical Test

180º Excavator (wheeled) above 5 tonne

The aim of the course is to provide the candidate with the basic knowledge and practical skills involved in operating the machine.

Candidates will participate in theory lessons and practical demonstrations/exercises, all of which are highlighted by the use of OHP and video covering:

  • An introduction to the construction industry
  • Current relevant legislation
  • Introduction to the machine
  • Pre-shift inspections
  • Operating on rough and sloping groun
  • Setting the machine for excavation
  • Operating the front shovel and backactor
  • Excavating on different types of ground
  • Placing spoil into various sized vehicles
  • Grading, spreading and levelling ground
  • Removing and re-attaching buckets
  • Manoeuvering in confined areas
  • Assessment which includes theory and practical tests.
