Basic Maintenance, Cross Cutting & Felling to 200mm/8" diameter

This course is a combined course which consists of chainsaw maintenance, cross-cutting and the felling of small trees.  The aim of the course is to provide the candidate with basic knowledge and practical skills involved in operating a chainsaw.

Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross-Cutting

This course can be run using Lantra or NPTC accreditation. This unit covers the introduction to the safety components of the saw, routine maintenance for prtrol driven chainsaws, safe starting procedures and pre-work checks, preparation of site before commencing work, cross-cutting timber to required length for specific purpose, of for further processing and stacking timber produce safely.

Chainsaw Felling Small Trees

Chainsaw felling of small trees is a course designed for those participants wishing to progress into an industry involving either maintenance or the felling of trees for a specific purpose.  This can be either, Forestry, Amenity or Utility Arboriculture, Game Keeping, or Farming.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Know relevant Health & Safety legislation and industry good practice.
  • Know how to carry out maintenance of chainsaw and cutting system.
  • Know how to cross-cut timber using a chainsaw.
  • Be able to work safety
  • Be able to carry out operational chainsaw checks
  • Be able to cross-cut timber using a chainsaw
  • Know how to fell and process trees up to 200mm
  • Know how to remove branches from felled trees using a chainsaw
  • Know how to take down hung trees.
  • Be able to cary out work safely
  • Be able to fell and process trees up to 200mm
