Plant Machinery Training: What To Look For In A Reliable Company

Plant Machinery Training is necessary for the safe, lawful, and efficient running of any construction project.

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 clearly states that “all persons who use work equipment [must] have received adequate training”.

However, there are no government issued licences for vehicles at work. Unlike driver’s licences, there is no national accrediting body. Instead, an operator must be trained by a private company.

Unfortunately, while there are many private training companies available, not all are worthy of your trust.

Qualified workers often find that their employer will not accept their training certificate as valid, insisting that they retrain. Usually, they will want this training done by a certifier they are familiar with and trust.

On the flip side, things can be equally frustrating if you’re an employer. You may have noticed that some employees trained under certain certifiers need to be retrained. After a while, you may begin to flag people trained under that company as a matter of course.

So, the question then becomes: who should you trust? What qualities should you be looking for in reliable plant machinery training?

Qualities To Look for In Reliable Plant Machinery Training

Our top recommended qualities to look for are:

Experience

Every company has to start somewhere, but that ‘somewhere’ shouldn’t have to be ‘you’. If you are considering a company to train you or your employees, look at their experience. How long have they been in business? A reliable plant machinery training company is one that’s been in business for a long time.

Competitive And Fair Pricing

Be wary of overly expensive courses. These trainers may advertise a level of proficiency above others, but what do they really have to offer? These courses often hold their trainees to unreasonable standards. Then failing them, they charge even more for additional training/re-testing.

On the opposite end of the scale, a suspiciously low-cost plant machinery training company is worse. A training company that undercharges will find a way to make up for their lack in cost. This will almost always be to the detriment of the trainee.

A company that is priced competitively, but also fairly, is the one to look for. Prices that reflect the value of the service give will be both fair and honest. It also means that they will have retained trainers with the level of expertise needed to train you or your employees.

Accreditation

Just because there is no national certifying body does not mean that there are no broadly accepted national accreditations. Look for trainers who are accredited by and supply courses from bodies such as LANTRA and NPORS.

Every company that deals in plant machinery training and certification should proudly display their own training and badges of accreditation. These can either be found on their website or upon request.
